WEBINAR: Shale Gas: Lessons and Implications of the American Experience for Europe
- 8:30 a.m. to 9:45 a.m. CDT
9:30 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. EDT
14:30 to 15:45 London
This webinar draws on the joint resources of Lawrence Graham, London, and Haynes and Boone, U.S., to present a combined American and European perspective on Europe's emerging shale gas industry, featuring insights from lawyers with extensive involvement and experience in the American shale boom to date.
The basics of shale geology and the mechanics of hydraulic fracturing or "fracing"
The U.S. experience with horizontal well drilling and hydraulic fracturing completion technology
The U.S. regulation of environmental aspects of hydraulic fracturing
Europe's nascent response - UK, France and Poland as exemplar countries
U.S. lessons for Europe? U.S. insights and perspectives for a European audience
This webinar will provide an overview of the origins and history of fracing in the U.S. and why it is done, as well as the mechanics and the technology of the process. It then will identify perceived environmental concerns associated with the fracing process and will discuss how U.S. federal, state, and local regulatory agencies have responded to those concerns. Within that context, we will consider the current regulatory position in various countries across Europe and then review how the fracing industry in Europe is likely to further develop its position based on insights and lessons learned from the U.S. experience.
